About the Institute

The Association Institute of Tolerance has been active in Łódź since 2001.
Its main aim is to spread the principles of tolerance and respect for the dignity of others. We organise meetings, workshops and exhibitions that break down barriers and broaden knowledge about different religions, faiths, views. We publish information brochures and invite discussion. An initiative widely supported by our Institute is Colourful Tolerance, a campaign to paint over vulgar and racist inscriptions on the walls of Łódź. It was after the first Colourful Tolerance in 2000, when it became clear that there was a need for a permanent discussion in Łódź about what hurts, about what differentiates us and, above all, about what unites us, that the idea was born to create an institution that would organise such activities not just once a year, but all year round. We have a number of projects to our credit, including a series of initiatives celebrating the 60th anniversary of the liquidation of the Łódź ghetto. We take part in international projects aimed at broadening knowledge and spreading the idea of tolerance.Since 2003, Professor Leszek Kołakowski has been an honorary member of the Institute of Tolerance.
